On September 10, 2016, Michael Romen, surrounded by his family and closest friends, passed away at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey..
He is the beloved son of Dr. Maximo Romen and Avelina Romen of Marlton, New Jersey. Dear brother of Anthony (Andrea) Romen, Matthew (Jamie) Romen, Andrew Romen and Clecy Romen. Dear uncle of Maxwell, Miles, and Marcus Romen. Loyal and devoted friend.
He attended the Katzenbach School for the Deaf and received a degree in Graphic Design at Camden County Community College. Michael used his education to become an incredibly talented artist with many forms of media. From photo editing, to 3D physical media, to carpentry skills, he was a jack of all trades when creating with his hands. He was also a brilliant photographer who offered his skills to capture the special moments in his family and friends’ lives. He was greatly involved with the deaf community at Holy Saviour Catholic Parish in Westmont, New Jersey, where he attended mass every Sunday.
Michael could always be found admiring the newest car models, researching how to build his next project, or preparing for the next big event or convention, like ComiCon. On his downtime, he loved to play video games with friends, use Facetime to chat, and watch anime and asian dramas. He would never turn down an invitation to spend quality time with friends and family, from hanging out at home to appreciating a properly cooked steak. In recent years, he has made a name for himself as the “Deaf Photographer” and applied his skill to a variety of events, from engagements/weddings, to social gatherings, and cosplay photoshoots. His arts and crafts are genuinely awe inspiring. Michael never hesitated to explore a new hobby to its fullest extent.
Despite a lifetime of physical and medical hurdles, Michael always had a positive attitude, and came back from each adversity stronger, and with more positivity than before. He was fearless in all his endeavors, and went through life with a great smile and with his trademark laugh. Michael had a profound impact on every life he encountered. He will continue to be loved and missed by all who knew him.
