Marie Sanchirico Obituary

Marie M. Sanchirico

Marlton- (nee DiTaranto) On April 6, 2019, age 100 years, Marie left us to join her beloved husband, the late Morris J. Sanchirico, and all of her brothers and sisters who she so dearly missed.  Born and raised in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of Michele and Margherita DiTaranto.  Her childhood years she would tell all, were remembered as being full of love and “not knowing we were poor” because they had all they needed in each other.  As a teenager, Marie left Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden prior to graduation to do her part for the good of her family. Moving to South Philadelphia into the home of her older sister Antoinette (Nettie), she honed her skills as a seamstress joining the war effort with Quartermaster. Sewing soldiers’ uniforms, including those for General Dwight D. Eisenhower and General Mark Clark, she awaited her love, Morris Sanchirico, to return home from the South Pacific so that they could be wed. He did, and following their wedding, they honeymooned in Atlantic City, NJ, for a brief time, until an announcement of the end of WWII required Morris to return back to base for discharge.  She refined her skills as a seamstress to become one of the select few with the talents required to make the finest of men’s custom shirts. Over many years, her skills were revered at John Shaw’s Custom Shirts, John Wanamaker’s Men’s Custom Shirt Shop, and Michael’s Custom Shirts.  In the mid 1970’s Marie took her talents for precision and detail to RCA in Camden, NJ. Her fine eye was not lost on RCA / GE and she was elevated to work on numerous sensitive projects, not the least of which were cameras that flew on NASA’s space shuttle. She retired from GE as a “first line inspector” at age 70 in 1989.  For years, Marie enjoyed the most wonderful summers on Long Beach Island with her family. Always drawn to the sand and shore, she later enjoyed summers in Ocean City, NJ strolling the boards.  She is survived and will be missed terribly by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark J. Sanchirico and Cynthia, and Mauro J. Sanchirico and Annette and the beaming lights in her life, her grandchildren, Michelle, Mauro III and his fiancé Amy, Mark and Nicole who reveled in G’Mom Ri’s stories, the kind that only 100 years could produce.  Along with her best friend, her niece Maria LaPella (“Okay Aunt Mary, first we’ll do that, but then afterwards we’ll go to lunch!”) she will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and all of her dear friends at Village Greenes.
Relatives and friends of the family will meet for her viewings on Friday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturday morning from 8:00am to 9:00am all at the BOCCO FUNERAL HOME, 1300 North Kings Hwy., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00am at St. John Neumann Church, 560 Walton Ave, Mt. Laurel, NJ 08054. Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marie’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,  P.O.
