John E. "Jack" Lorenz

John E. “Jack” Lorenz, on August 10, 2024 age 87 of Cherry Hill, NJ.  Beloved husband of the late Phyllis M. Lorenz (nee Huntzinger). Dear father of John M. Lorenz and Beth Lorenz Brody. Loving grandfather of Daniel Brody and Carolyn Brody. 

Jack graduated from Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Later that year he married the love of his life, Phyllis, whom he adored endlessly, traveled with frequently, and cared for selflessly throughout their lives. Jack and Phyllis lived their entire married life in New Jersey where Jack remained dedicated to his civil engineering career, working for the Township of Cherry Hill and ultimately becoming partner in a Marlton-based engineering firm.

A true Jack of all trades, he balanced his professional success with familial dedication, taking his family on yearly vacations – including driving across the country in the summer of 1975. He was even brave enough to be the PTA President for his children’s elementary school one year. A skilled handyman, Jack built bedrooms, bathrooms, a deck, and finished the basement in their Cherry Hill home, where they lived for more than 55 years. He later pivoted those skills to build his young grandson a beautifully crafted Lego table, and levelling every door and fixing every crack in his daughter’s home.

Jack was fiercely devoted to his children and grandchildren, and passed on to them his compassion, loyalty, courage, and his impeccable sense of decency. It has been said that Jack knew no strangers, greeting everyone he met with a handshake and a warm smile. His infectious laugh, quick-witted humor, and lively stories will be sorely missed by the many who love him.  

Relatives and friends of the family will meet for the visitation and funeral on Friday morning from 10:00am to 10:50am at Christ The King R.C. Church, 200 Windsor Ave, Haddonfield, NJ. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00am.
