Leonor Dimayuga Pena Cueto of Cherry Hill, New Jersey and former First Lady of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Leonor, fondly called “Ate or Tita Leoning” by so many, was born in Lipa, Batangas, Philippines on July 7, 1926 to the late Policarpo Pena and Rosario Dimayuga. She was married for more than 50 years to the late Atty. Cesareo M. Cueto, Sr., who was a former Mayor of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. She spent a great part of her life in the Philippines supporting and actively participating in a busy life as a wife of a politician and mother to their thirteen children.
When she immigrated to the United States, she worked at Syms Clothing and was involved in the Philippine Community. She was a parishioner of Christ Our Light Catholic Church, a member of the Almighty Name of Jesus prayer group and PCSNJ, Inc. senior citizen group. Then in 1999 the Filipino American Association of Philadelphia, Inc. gave her the title of Mother of the Year. That title appropriately describes her, since she was not just the mother to her children, but to most Calapenos and people who have had the opportunity to be touched by her tender loving care and compassion. She loved to sing and dance and enjoyed traveling.
Leonor was predeceased by her four siblings, two sons-in-law, and a son (Allan). She is survived by her children: Aliena, Ligaya, Cesar, Leo, Raul, Agnes, Portia, Esther, Cesareo, Jr., Clarisa, Lyndon and Leonor (Nol), 28 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nieces from Arizona; Mercy, Carmelita, Lisa and Mhei, other nephews, nieces, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law and cousins in the Philippines and USA, as well as her special friends
